Kaplan Forensic Psychological Services Description

Dr. Lauren E. Kaplan is a clinical and forensic psychologist licensed to practice in the states of Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio. A Louisville native, she received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D), with an emphasis in Forensic Psychology, from Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky.  Dr. Kaplan has experience working in numerous clinical and forensic settings, including forensic psychiatric centers and correctional facilities.


Dr. Kaplan specializes in psychological testing and assessment, conducting both clinical and forensic psychological evaluations. She has experience administering a variety of psychological assessments, including personality and forensic assessments, risk assessments, cognitive and academic achievement tests, and behavioral assessments. She primarily assists with forensic cases at the county, state, and federal levels, and has provided consultative and forensic evaluation services for legal proceedings in numerous counties located across Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana.  


As a private practitioner, she works with courts and lawyers on both sides of the bar, providing evaluations and expert testimony for criminal and civil cases.  She is often sought out for her multicultural approach and sensitivity to factors such as culture, gender, and socioeconomic status.  She maintains a small therapy caseload and has extensive experience providing individual, group, and couples counseling.

Postdoctoral Experience:

As a postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Kaplan provided individual, family, and couples therapy using evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, combined with psychodynamic and interpersonal approaches.  Additionally, she provided group therapy services for Department of Child Services (DCS) involved adolescent females in a residential, group home setting, and conducted psychological forensic evaluations for Juvenile Probation in the greater Southern Indiana area.


Dr. Kaplan is contracted with the Clark County Department of Job and Family Services (CCDJFS) to provide a variety of psychological evaluation services, such as parental capacity, adoption readiness, and psychosexual-risk evaluations.  Prior, she assisted the Court Clinic in Cincinnati, Ohio with forensic evaluations, including Mitigation of Sentence and Treatment Advisability.  Dr. Kaplan supervises masters-level clinicians in the application of clinical and forensic psychology, with special emphases on diagnostic assessment and forensic evaluation.

Doctoral Internship

The Wright State University doctoral internship was a university-affiliated internship accredited by the American Psychological Association.


Dr. Kaplan's training included a one-year rotation at The Forensic Psychiatry Center for Western Ohio, housed in Eastway Behavioral Healthcare in Dayton, Ohio.


The Forensic Psychiatry Center is one of the 10 Forensic Centers certified by the state of Ohio to provide complex, court-referred, community forensic evaluations. Dr. Kaplan was fortunate to receive direct supervision and hands-on training from the Western Forensic Psychiatry director.
